Tres Brujas
"Tres Brujas" (English: "Three Witches") is a song by American heavy metal band The Sword, featured on their 2010 third studio album Warp Riders. Written by lead vocalist and guitarist John "J. D." Cronise and guitarist Kyle Shutt, the song was released in the United States as the lead single from the album as a digital download on June 6, 2010.[1] The single's cover, in response to Warp Riders ' new more progressive rock leanings, is an homage to the 1972 Yes album Close to the Edge.
History
The song title "Tres Brujas", which takes its name from the story of the Three Witches from William Shakespeare's Macbeth, was first officially revealed by bassist Bryan Richie in an interview at Fun Fun Fun Fest 2009.[2] In June 2010 Blabbermouth.net revealed that "Tres Brujas" would be released as the first single from Warp Riders on July 6, and would also be the first in a trilogy of music videos continuing with "Lawless Lands" and "Night City".[3] With the confirmation of the track listing for the album, it was revealed that "Tres Brujas" is the second song after opener "Acheron/Unearthing the Orb".[4]
The band performed the song at the 2010 South by Southwest festival, and a blogger described the track as "full of kick-ass riffs and the usual barely-passable vocals that [he's] come to know and love".[5] On July 15, 2010, magazine Classic Rock named "Tres Brujas" their "Track of the Day".[6]
